How to choose the right size of airbags? Below you should pay attention:

 

1. Effective Length: The effective length of the selected airbag shall not be less than the maximum width of the vessel or the heavy object to be moved. When arranging two rows of airbags, it is essential to calculate the total length of the airbags to prevent mutual contact between the two rows. The total length of an airbag can be estimated as the sum of its effective length and diameter. For example, an airbag with an effective length of 16 meters and a diameter of 1.5 meters has a total length of 17.5 meters.

 

2. Diameter: The diameter of the airbag is determined by the height of the vessel's support blocks. If the support block height is 1 meter, an airbag with a diameter of no less than 1.5 meters should be selected; for 1.5-meter-high support blocks, a 2-meter-diameter airbag is optimal.

 

3. Air Lifting Application: For air lifting purposes, the diameter and length of the airbag are primarily determined by the required buoyancy. Additionally, the pressure-bearing capacity of the airbag must be considered when deployed in deep-water environments to ensure operational safety.

 

4. Caisson Transportation: For caisson transportation using marine airbags, the optimal diameter ranges from 0.8 to 1 meter. The performance of marine airbags is determined by the number of fabric plies. Medium-pressure airbags are sufficient for air lifting or launching lightweight vessels (with a launching weight below 2,000 tons). High-pressure airbags are mandatory for heavy-duty operations. Generally, airbags with 6-8 plies meet the requirements of most engineering projects. Only in rigorous scenarios (e.g., lifting heavy caissons with limited contact area) are 9-10 plies required to enhance pressure resistance and ensure operational safety.
