Pneumatic Fender

 

The Pneumatic Fender (Yokohama Fender) is an abrasion-resistant rubber fender filled with high pressure air. It can easily be deflated which allows simple and cost effective relocation and re-commissioning in other locations.

 

Pneumatic Fenders are supplied with two different inside pressure levels to cover a wide performance range. They are manufactured according to ISO 17357-1:2014. Pneumatic Fenders can be produced using different methods and each has its own advantages when compared correctly. The most common methods are molded and wrapped.

Pneumatic Fenders are available in diameters ranging from 300 mm to 4,500 mm and lengths ranging from 500 mm to 9,000 mm, as well as special sizes.

 

All sizes are available as sling-type or with a heavy duty chain & tire net.

Net type: The net type fender is consist of fender body, tires, chains and rubber sleeves.

Sling type: The sling fender is designed for use without a protective net

Advantages of pneumatic rubber fender

Florescence pneumatic rubber fender is constructed of several layers of strong tire cord and is thus resistant to pressure and cutting.

Florescence pneumatic rubber fender utilizes the compressive elasticity of air. Therefore performance deterioration due to fatigue is absent.

Energy absorption of Pneumatic Fender does not decrease at inclined compression up to 15 degrees.

The reaction force of Florescence pneumatic rubber fender does not increase sharply, even under excess load conditions.

Florescence pneumatic rubber fenders are adequately reinforced using a strong tire cord to cope with shearing, compression forces, and internal pressure.

Florescence pneumatic rubber fender can be removed quickly to a suitable jetty or quay when not used or transferred to another mooring point whenever required.

Marking-less Pneumatic Fenders use a specially formulated outer rubber to avoid marking the ship’s hull.

The Low-pressure Pneumatic Fender type is designed with a lighter body construction. Our Pneumatic Fender is popular for applications requiring large clearance between the ship and jetty or between two ships but not necessarily needing the high performance of a standard high-pressure pneumatic fender.

Vertical-Pneumatic fenders are designed to be installed vertically (Hydro-pneumatic fenders are water-ballasted). They are popular with vessels whose berthing point is below the waterline, such as catamaran ships, semi-submersible platforms, or other submersibles. Also, they are suitable as secondary fenders at both bow and stern of the ship.

The Pneumatic Fender watch is convenient for checking the internal pressure using sensors installed in the fender body and receiver. The receiver can use one or several fenders simultaneously.

Application of pneumatic rubber fender

. Ship to ship operation

Generally speaking, for the light duty ship to ship operation, two contact points are enough. But for the heavy duty ship to ship operation, 1 or 2 extra pneumatic rubber fender should be used as the primary fendering to absorb the berthing energy, and keep proper stand-off distance between two ships. Meanwhile, two or more small-size fenders can be hung on the ship hull as the secondary fendering.

. Ship to quay operation

Pneumatic fenders are often used for the ship to quay operation because of its excellent performance. The typical installation

type is like the follow figure. The pneumatic fenders are anchored with quay by the guy chain and shackles. Meanwhile, the pneumatic fender can be floated on the water surface depend on the change of tide.

The following factors should be considered in the selection of pneumatic fenders:

(1) Maximum energy absorption E; (2) Reaction force; (3) Distance requirements after berthing of two ships or the berthing

distance from the ship to the dock, including the maximum distance and the minimum distance; (4) The size of the ship; (5) Factors

such as wind waves and temperature changes in the actual use environment.

The selection of pneumatic fender system first needs to determine the collision energy of the ship when berthing and after

berthing, and select the specifications of pneumatic fender according to the distance requirements (maximum distance and minimum

distance) after berthing, and verify whether the maximum reaction force of pneumatic fender is within the allowable range of hull

design.
